In a not-too-hot dimly lit afternoon, after having eaten my Laksa meal at Laksalicious in Penang, I proactively wanted to stumble upon a place where I could comfortably work, you know, good food, nice atmosphere, and one with wifi and a charging station.
And I stumbled upon this charming café with a nature-vibe area and good lighting, the Emily Darling Desserts Shop! When I entered the place, I knew: this was the place for me to spend the afternoon. And mind you, it’s just tucked along Jalan Penang, George Town (easy to miss if you’re not looking!).

When I entered, a cool breeze from the well-ventilated interior welcomed me. And when I looked at the counter, boy, they do have pretty desserts and drinks! I ordered their Blueberry Roselle Kombucha and a chocolate cake.

This was my first time being served a drink with an extra half-full bottle of Kombucha. I asked the server what it was for, and she answered: so that the fizz could be preserved. And yes, it fizzes! Like tiny bubbles dancing and popping in my mouth all at once! And yes, I love berries and Roselle tea (that pleasantly sour taste). Plus the color is just so beautifully red. (The kind of deep, jewel-toned red you want to photograph before you drink it.)

So here I am, drinking tea, eating chocolate cake and listening to (I dunno, maybe Jazz music?) in Penang just like so many slow afternoons that I have in any other place. Life is good and beautiful.
