I can say that I am not as healthy as I want to be. Sure, I’ve been wanting to be fit not just physically, spiritually but also mentally. So just like any other human beings who are “frustrated-fitness-enthusiasts”, I’ve been rambling about getting fit, maybe going back to yoga or maybe kickboxing. Unfortunately, I am not the type of person who sticks with a schedule or even does some exercise that make me heavily sweat (well, except eating lol) so I picked up my phone and searched for some low-key activities that would improve my health.
Lo- and behold, I’ve been given tens of thousands of search results. And one that resonated with me is WALKING.
So before 2025 started, I already ventured into this low-intensity activity and mind you, there are plenty of benefits of walking especially if you have a magnificent view!
Benefits of walking in my overall health
Enhanced Mood and Mental Health
I’ve been in constant anxiety before due to some responsibilities that sometimes overwhelms me in a level that I cannot comprehend. When I started walking, especially with nature, it boosted my mood. I’m no longer cranky and I don’t feel stuffy (unknown suffocating feeling), and I don’t feel like I’m always in a rush anymore.
So after I wake up and drink my 1 glass of lukewarm water, I then go to my walking place. Before, it used to be Kangwayan Road (Cebu province) but now since I’m living in the city, I go to Golden Haven instead. It’s a high-class cemetery with an amazing view of the fields, trees, sky and especially the mountains.
Golden Haven Memorial Parks, Talamban Hills, Binaliw, Cebu City
This is the view that helps me complete my 6k-10k steps daily!
I wouldn’t mind walking peacefully or maybe resting calmly here (yes, play of words are intended).
Increased Motivation for Exercise
Walking with a view makes all the difference. When the scenery is beautiful, it doesn’t feel like a chore. Instead, it feels like an adventure. I don’t dread it, and I find myself looking forward to these moments every day.
Instead of dragging myself to a high-intensity workout or stressing about my lack of gym time, walking gives me the satisfaction of moving my body without pressure.
Boosted Creativity and Inspiration
I can’t count how many “aha!” moments I’ve had while walking, like starting this blog again (*wink). There’s something about a beautiful view that sparks creativity and clears mental blocks. Whether it’s brainstorming ideas for work, figuring out life’s challenges, or simply daydreaming, walking with a view opens up my mind in ways I didn’t expect.
Being surrounded by nature or captivating scenery helps me focus on the bigger picture. It’s like the fresh air and calming sights reset my thoughts, making it easier to come up with solutions or fresh perspectives.
Improved Mindfulness and Presence
When I walk in a beautiful place, I naturally pay attention to my surroundings—the way the sun filters through the trees, how the mountains stand tall in the distance, or even the sound of birds chirping. It’s a perfect exercise in mindfulness.
I think the “Golden” in Golden Haven was inspired from when the sun rises, its light is like glimmers of gold that kisses the trees, grounds and the grass.
As the sun rises
Walking with a view grounds me in the moment. I notice things I would’ve overlooked before, like how beautiful life and trees are or how calming the sky looks as it shifts hues. It helps me pause and appreciate life, one step at a time.
Physical and Mental Recharge
Let’s not forget the physical benefits! Walking has helped me feel more energized throughout the day. With every step, I’m improving my heart health, circulation, and stamina. But more than that, the mental recharge I get is priceless.
After a walk, I return home or to work feeling refreshed, motivated, and ready to tackle whatever’s ahead. It’s not just a workout for my body but also a much-needed escape for my mind.
Walking is indeed a walk in the park. With a view like this, sooner or later my body would fit like a Victoria Secret model, a soul as calm as the lake, and a mind as peaceful as the ocean free from storm.
And who knew something as simple as putting one foot in front of the other could make such a difference? 😊
